What is Colorectal Cancer?

Colorectal cancer is the cancer of the colon or rectum. The colon is also called the large intestine and the rectum connects the colon to the anal opening.

Colorectal cancer is the 2nd-leading cancer killer in the U.S., but it doesn’t have to be! It is considered to be among the most preventable of all cancers. Screening is vital to the prevention, and early detection and treatment of colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer is just as common in women as men over a lifetime. Both men and women should start getting screened at 50 years of age.
